History
Faculty of Medicine, which oversees the Ear Nose Throat-Head and Neck Surgery (ENT-HNS) Study Program, is one of the first faculty in the establishment of Udayana University. The idea of establishing Medical Faculty and also Udayana University was initiated by the Governor of Bali at the time, AAB Sutedja, who was also supported by President Soekarno to fulfill the shortage of doctors in Bali. Decree of the Minister of Higher Education and Science Number 104/1962 dated August 19, 1962 declared Udayana University was officially established on August 17, 196, which was later inaugurated by President Soekarno with Precidential Decree Number 18/1963 dated January 31, 1963. Medical Faculty of Udayana University was led by dr. AA Made Djelantik as Dean. Learning activities were carried out by borrowing the hall at Sanglah Hospital, laboratory equipment from School of Science Teaching Singaraja, and assisted by teaching staff from all doctors in Bali and outside Bali. Medical Faculty of Udayana University continues to thrive to date, with 6 bachelor degree study program, 19 specialist-1 (SP-1) study programs, 4 master study programs, and 1 doctoral study program.
History of the establishment of ENT-HNS Specialist Study Program of Udayana University can be traced from the implementation of Sanglah Hospital ENT polyclinic service in 1969, which was conducted by a general practitioner, whose name is dr. Adi Palguna, assisted by a nurse. First otorhinolaryngologist on duty at Sanglah Hospital was dr. Putu Wirya Masna, Sp.T.H.T.K.L.(K) who finished his education (brevet) from the University of Indonesia (UI) in 1970. At the same year, he also gave his first lecture at Medical Faculty of Udayana University. Prof. dr. Wayan Suardana, Sp.T.H.T.K.L.(K) was appointed as assistant in the ENT-HNS department of Sanglah Hospital in 1972 and graduated from specialist study at UI in 1978. He immediately returned to serve as a lecturer at Medical Faculty of Udayana University and ENT-HNS specialist at Sanglah Hospital after he was graduated.
The number of ENT-HNS specialist increased as dr. Made Tjekeg, Sp.T.H.T.K.L.(K) joined in 1982 and dr. IB Oka, Sp.T.H.T.K.L. joined in 1985. They were both UI graduates. Furthermore, dr. AA Sagung Puteri, Sp.T.H.T.K.L., who was an assistant at the ENT-HNS department of Sanglah Hospital, graduated from Airlangga University in 1985. Next, joined dr. Made Sudipta, Sp.T.H.T.K.L.(K) and dr. Wayan Sudana, Sp.T.H.T.K.L.(K) who finished their study at Airlangga University in 1988 and 1989. In 1990, dr. Eka Putra Setiawan, Sp.T.H.T.K.L.(K) joined as an assistant at the ENT polyclinic before undergoing ENT-HNS specialist study at Gajah Mada University and graduated in 1997. He served at Klungkung Hospital before finally rejoining the ENT-HNS Departement of Sanglah Hospital in 1999. Previously, in 1997, dr Luh Made Ratnawati, Sp.T.H.T.K.L.(K) who finished her study at Hasanudin University in 1994 , joined the ENT Department of Sanglah Hospital.
After the establishment of ENT-HNS department of Sanglah Hospital with 8 staffs, 7 divisions were developed and plans to establish an ENT-HNS specialist education center was made. Preparations to establish an ENT-HNS Specialist Study Program began with the development of Kamboja Ward at Sanglah Hospital, which was a ward to treat ENT-HNS patients, so that it had meeting rooms and facilities for education. In addition, efforts were also made to involve ENT-HNS specialists outside Sanglah Hospital as extraordinary lecturers, namely dr. IB Alit Mayasa, Sp.T.H.T.K.L. who served in Tabanan Hospital and dr. Made Sastrawan, Sp.T.H.T.K.L. who served at Wangaya Hospital, Denpasar. ENT-HNS Study Program of Medical Faculty of Udayana University was officially established as ENT-HNS Health Sciences Specialist Study Program in March 28, 2000 based on the Decree of the General Director of Higher Educations Number 2372/D2/1999 with Prof. dr. Wayan Suardana, Sp.T.H.T.K.L.(K) as Head of the Department and dr. AA Sagung Puteri, Sp.T.H.T.K.L as Secretary of the Department.
The first students were two assistants who were interns in the ENT-HNS Department starting fro. 1999, namely dr. IDG Arta Eka Putra, Sp.T.H.T.K.L.(K) and dr. Made Wiranadha , Sp.T.H.T.K.L.(K). After that, ENT-HNS Specialist Study Program of Medical Faculty of Udayana University accepts students regularly every year. The educational process is ran with the support of Sanglah Hospital Denpasar as teaching hospital and involved various parties. In addition to education, research, and hospital service activities, the ENT-HNS Specialist Study Program of Medical Faculty of Udayana University also organizes social services in the province of Bali.
The regeneration process continues with the recruitment of new staff, who were students in ENT-HNS Specialist Study Program of Medical Faculty of Udayana University. First batch students, dr Made Wiranadha, Sp.T.H.T.K.L.(K) and dr. IDG Arta Eka Putra, Sp.T.H.T.K.L.(K) join as the teaching staff of ENT-HNS Specialist Study Program of Medical Faculty of Udayana University. Next dr. I Gde Ardika Nuaba, Sp.T.H.T.K.L.(K), FICS joined in 2006, Dr. dr. Made Lely Rahayu, Sp.T.H.T.K.L.(K) in 2007, dr. Komang Andi Dwi Saputra, Sp.T.H.T.K.L.(K) in 2008, dr. I Wayan Sucipta, Sp.T.H.T.K.L.(K) and dr. Agus Rudi Asthuta, Sp.T.H.T.K.L.(K) in 2011, and dr. I Ketut Suanda, Sp.T.H.T.K.L.(K) in 2013.
The educational process of the ENT-HNS Specialist Study Program of Medical Faculty of Udayana University got a breakthrough in the form of networking hospitals consisting of 3 regional hospitals, namely Mangusada Hospital in Badung Regency, Sanjiwani Hospital in Gianyar Regency, and Wangaya Hospital in Denpasar City. Udayana University Hospital in Jimbaran since the end of 2019 has become the newest educational vehicle for students of the ENT-HNS specialist program.
Until 2021, ENT-HNS Specialist Study Program of Medical Faculty of Udayana University already has 110 ENT-HNS specialists that spread across various regions amd province in Indonesia and one graduate who served in the neighboring country, Timor Leste .
Since 2018 there have also been new staff additions, namely dr. I Putu Santhi Dewantara, M. Biomed, Sp. T.H.T.K.L. and and dr. Ni Putu Oktaviani Rinika Pranitasari, M. Biomed, Sp. T.H.T.K.L., in 2018; dr. Ni Luh Sartika Sari, M. Biomed, Sp. T.H.T.K.L., Dr. Putu Dian Ariyanti Putri, M. Biomed, Sp. T.H.T.K.L., and Dr. I Wayan Lolik Lesmana, M. Biomed, Sp. T.H.T.K.L. in 2019; dr. IA Alit Widiantari, Sp. T.H.T.K.L. in 2020; and dr. Gede Wahyu Adi Raditya, Sp. T.H.T.K.L., dr. Putu Yupindra Pradipta, Sp. T.H.T.K.L., dr. IGA Mahaprani Danastri, Sp. T.H.T.K.L., and dr. Putu Diah Vedayanti, Sp. T.H.T.K.L. in 2022 .
To date, the ENT-HNS Specialist Study Program of Medical Faculty of Udayana University has 9 divisions, namely Laryngeal pharynx, Rhinology, Allergy Immunology, Otology, Neurotology, Community ENT, Oncology, Bronchoesophagology, and Facial Plastic Reconstruction. ENT-HNS Specialist Study Program of Medical Faculty of Udayana University continues to develop itself to be better by improving the quality of teaching staff, facilities and infrastructure, and learning methods.
