On Tuesday, June 11, 2024, Radio RRI Denpasar, in collaboration with the ENT-HL Health Science Student Association (KSM) of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University/Prof. Dr. Ngoerah General Hospital, hosted a health talkshow on the topic “The Impact of Nerve Deafness Caused by Streptococcus suis Meningitis (SSM).” The event took place from 4:00 to 5:00 PM WITA and was broadcast live on RRI Pro 2 Denpasar 95.3 FM as well as the RRI Denpasar YouTube channel, making it accessible to the wider public.


The talkshow featured experts in their respective fields, including Dr. I Gede Wahyu Adi Raditya, Sp.T.H.T.B.K.L, who discussed the impact of MSS infection on ear health and hearing function; Dr. Ni Made Susilawathi, Sp.N(K), who explained the involvement of the nervous system and associated neurological risks; and Dr. I Gusti Ayu Raka Susanti, M.Kes from the Bali Provincial Health Office, who provided a public health perspective on prevention and educational efforts. The event was also enlivened by a performance from De’Bongols and hosted by Tary Sah, creating a more interactive and engaging atmosphere.


The discussion highlighted the importance of understanding Streptococcus suis meningitis as a serious infectious disease that not only affects the central nervous system but also has the potential to cause permanent sensorineural hearing loss. Through the speakers’ explanations, the public gained insights into how the disease is transmitted, early symptoms to watch for, and appropriate medical interventions to prevent further complications.


This educational activity offers significant benefits, particularly in raising public awareness about the often-overlooked dangers of MSS infection, which can have long-term impacts on patients’ quality of life. With this talkshow, it is hoped that the public will better understand the importance of early detection, prevention through clean and healthy living habits, and the vital role of medical professionals in providing proper education and care.
